Top smartphones in the US as of the year 2023

Top smartphones in the US as of the year 2023:We list the top smartphones made by Samsung, Apple, Google, and other manufacturers.

The ideal phone should be a fantastic communicator, a superb camera, an enjoyable gaming device, and much more. It must have a long-lasting battery and quick charging capabilities so you can start working right away. Even without a case, it must be resilient enough to withstand drops, and a simple soak in the sink shouldn’t be a problem.

This year has seen the introduction of fantastic new foldable phones, intriguing possibilities from both established and up-and-coming businesses besides Apple and Samsung, and of course trustworthy improvements like the titanium iPhone 15 Pro Max and the truly moon-shot Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Except for the OnePlus Open, which we aim to have reviewed as soon as the device comes on October 19, we’ve already held most of the new phones we anticipate seeing in 2023. Even if the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is still our favourite foldable, we’re interested to see what OnePlus has in store.

The Pixel 7 Pro has been replaced on our list by the most recent Google Pixel 8 Pro, which is currently available and will be worth keeping an eye on for a while. The latest Pixel phones will receive upgrades for seven years, according to Google, which is longer than any other phone manufacturer has guaranteed. That might shake up the market, and ideally the other top phone manufacturers will follow suit.

We’ve ranked the top smartphones in this buying guide for 2023. The iPhone 15, which is both lightning-fast and entertaining to use, is currently our favourite. We still adore Android phones just as much, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra remains our top pick if you want a device that can do it all.

If no model catches your attention, take a look at our brand-specific rankings. We’ve examined all the newest phones and compiled lists of the top Samsung, iPhone, and Google Pixel models elsewhere on the site.

The recently unveiled iPhone 15 from Apple represents the biggest upgrade for a base iPhone in a number of years, solidifying its position as the finest value phone money can buy in 2023.

Design: The iPhone 15 advances the base model with a redesigned (and eye-catching) rear glass panel, a revised chassis design, and a USB-C connection that increases compatibility, which is something the iPhone 14 did not do.

Display: Like the iPhone 14, the 6.1-inch Super XDR OLED display on the iPhone 15 is bright and responsive, but its refresh rate is fixed at 60Hz. However, this time around, Apple’s Dynamic Island is included.

Camera: The iPhone 15 still only has two lenses on the back, although one of them is significantly upgraded over the iPhone 14. The 48MP lens on the main camera is the same as the one found on the outstanding iPhone 14 Pro (and, in fact, the iPhone 15 Pro), so the 12MP ultrawide remains mostly unchanged.

Performance: The iPhone 15 features the lightning-fast A16 Bionic chipset seen in the iPhone 14 Pro, which should be more than adequate for the majority of iPhone owners (for background, the latter was the most potent smartphone of 2022).

Battery life: The iPhone 15 has a 20-hour video playback rating, an 80-hour audio-only rating, and a 30-minute 50% recharge with the optional 20W charger. In our tests, the phone was usable for a full day of casual use.

The iPhone 15 bucks this trend by being a genuinely outstanding value product. Read our entire iPhone 15 review. Value for money: In recent years, Apple’s basic models have felt like small enhancements that pale in comparison to their respective Pro-level equivalents.

IF, BUY IT
You need an iPhone that won’t break the bank: The iPhone 15 strikes a good balance between cost and cutting-edge functionality so you won’t feel left out.

You want a camera upgrade: The iPhone 15 has strong camera specs for the price, thanks to its new 48MP main camera and some excellent portrait photography features.

AVOID BUYING IT IF:
If you now possess a Pro Max or Plus, the iPhone 15’s 6.1-inch screen may feel small to you.

You desire a bigger zoom: The iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S23 all have 3x optical zoom, whereas this device only offers 2x.

THE CONCLUSION
The ordinary iPhone 15 offers pretty much everything you might want from a flagship phone, but for a lot less money, providing you don’t mind titanium edges, 120Hz scrolling, or high-spec zoom photography. ★★★★½

  • Extremely pricey

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra differs from the Galaxy S22 Ultra very slightly, yet the 2023 phone significantly outperforms Samsung’s previous flagship in several respects. A new camera sensor with more megapixels than we could have ever imagined in a phone is added, along with a speedier chipset and more durable materials all around.

Design: The front and rear of the Galaxy S23 Ultra are both smooth planes of glass, and the display gently curves inward towards the frame. Although not nearly as smooth as the S22 Ultra from the previous year, it is nonetheless stunning. In person, the new, more natural colour tones are much more pleasant than in product images.

Display: The large, vibrant AMOLED screen on the Galaxy S23 Ultra is one of the best displays available. It isn’t the brightest and doesn’t support Dolby Vision, but it is fluid and has a quick refresh rate of 120Hz, making it seem great when playing games or watching movies.

Camera: Using the Galaxy S23 Ultra is similar to carrying a camera bag full of lenses. It is the best camera phone money can buy due to its versatility. The greatest phone for serious photography, with a tonne of lenses, fantastic shooting settings, and now even an expert-level app.

Performance: The Galaxy S23 Ultra is the Android benchmark champion thanks to its custom, overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is faster than the Snapdragon in other smartphones. When recording 8K video or playing games with high resolution, it performs equally well in real life.

Battery life: Sure, we can always request more battery (maybe in place of the pen the next time? ), but the Galaxy S23 Ultra lasted exceptionally long in our review testing, longer than most current devices we’ve tested. It maintains the same 5,000 mAh battery as its predecessor (and most current flagships), but does so with good power management.

Value: Just skip this part and return to the top to read about all the incredible hardware and features that you get for a significant investment. Yes, the Galaxy S23 Ultra costs four figures in every country, despite the fact that Samsung phones are well known for their carrier- and trade-in-related offers.

Read the complete review of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

AVOID BUYING IT IF:
You’re on a tight budget: Samsung doesn’t leave you wanting more, and there are amazing offers to be had. It’s the most costly phone that doesn’t fold in two.

You dislike large smartphones: The S23 Ultra is curved, smooth, and enormously large. Because of its size, it can conceal an enormous battery and a full pen inside while yet remaining waterproof. It’s a monster when carrying a case.

You despise One UI: Samsung tinkers with Android, and while One UI improves with each use, Google’s Pixel version is still easier to use, more refined, and, dare we say it, a stronger iOS rival.

THE CONCLUSION
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is so loaded with features that it hardly belongs in the same class as its considerably less complex competitors. Nevertheless, Samsung refuses to move backwards and never gives up on a feature it finds appealing. You get one of the greatest smartphone displays, excellent performance, a tonne of photography features, and a hidden pen. The luxury will cost you money, but what a pleasure it is.

  • Beautiful but understated redesign
    +Superb photography
    CONDITIONS TO AVOID
-A more expensive baseline (but more storage)
    -Charging ought to be quicker

For Apple aficionados with an endless amount of money, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is without a doubt the best iPhone money can buy in 2023. Although the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts a 5x periscope zoom lens, the latter phone is objectively superior because the smaller iPhone 15 Pro is also a remarkable handset that’s worth considering if you like its more practical 6.1-inch size.

Design: Like its younger sibling, the iPhone 15 Pro has a stunning titanium construction that makes it more resistant to unwanted drops than its before. This device is also more adaptable thanks to the addition of a USB-C port and a programmable Action button.

Display: The 6.7-inch Super XDR OLED screen (with ProMotion) on the iPhone 15 Pro Max is superb and remains untouched from the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Camera: The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 48MP quad-pixel main lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, giving it the most competent and flexible iPhone yet for mobile photographers. It also features the aforementioned 5x periscope zoom lens, the first of its type on an iPhone.

Performance: The brand-new A17 Pro chipset from Apple offers mobile gamers performance that is on par with certain top-tier PCs (yeah, really). The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the most potent phone available, along with the iPhone 15 Pro.

Battery life: In our tests, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s battery lasted for 28 hours when under mixed use, and it took little over 30 minutes to fully recharge. Although other phones charge more quickly, that’s still fairly impressive for a phone of this size and power.

Value: The iPhone 15 Pro Max is an incredibly pricey device that will never be really regarded as good value for money, much like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Despite this, you still get a lot of phone for your money.

Read the complete review of the iPhone 15 Pro Max here.

IF, BUY IT
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the most technologically advanced iPhone Apple has ever produced, bar none. You want the biggest and finest iPhone.

You want the most powerful phone: The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s A17 Pro chipset is more potent than anything else on the market, allowing you to play console-caliber games.

You need a diverse camera system: The iPhone 15 Pro Max has the best portrait photography technology available in addition to its 5x optical zoom capabilities.

AVOID BUYING IT IF:
If you’re looking for the best mobile zoom camera, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 5x optical zoom is a welcome upgrade, but Samsung’s 10x optical zoom on the Galaxy S23 is superior.

You need rapid charging: The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a reassuringly reliable battery and works well when it comes to charging, but competitors on other fronts offer far faster rates.

THE CONCLUSION
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the pinnacle of iPhones, in our opinion. However, owning one would come at a hefty price, since Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra has somewhat superior cameras and is priced equally. ★★★★½

Incredible updates after seven years
CONDITIONS TO AVOID
-Confusing Android settings and features
-AI characteristics come out as obtrusive and cold
-Cameras fall short of the iPhone 15 Pro.

With significant camera improvements that will please even professional photographers and a Tensor G3 chipset designed specifically to power Google’s machine learning features, the Pixel 8 Pro is Google’s most ambitious Pixel yet. The performance of this phone has Google so confident that it is pledging an unprecedented seven years of significant updates, which is longer than any other phone manufacturer presently supports its phones.

Design: The Pixel 8 Pro has corners that are more rounded and a display that is more flat. This improves your ability to view your material while also making the phone easier to hold. The finish is beautiful, and the hues are more elegant and welcoming than odd and cutting-edge. The fact that this is the prettiest Pixel phone to date is a wonderful thing considering that Google has essentially produced the same phone three times.

Display: This year’s main feature is the Pixel 8 Pro display, which Google has even given its own brand name for: Super Actua. When it is at its brightest, the Pixel 8 Pro can produce 2,400 nits of light, and it can still produce 1,600 nits when you are not in direct sunlight. The Pixel 8 Pro display outperforms the iPhone 15 Pro Max in practically every category.

Camera: When compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, certain shots taken with the Pixel 8 Pro appeared better, but others, particularly low-light and nighttime photos, appeared better on the iPhone. That’s unexpected, but Google can still take pride in a few things. Only the Pixel 8 Pro features Magic Editor, which uses Google’s Magic Eraser and generative AI to correct and change images a little too easily.

Performance: The Pixel 8 Pro does just fine in terms of raw performance, pushing games and graphics to new heights, but it won’t take first place in any competitions. It handled all of my favourite games and smoothly played high-resolution films, but earlier Android devices like the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro had superior visuals overall.

Battery life: The Pixel 8 Pro easily lasted an entire day of use. That shouldn’t be shocking considering that it has a bigger battery than both the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus. You’ll need to get a gaming phone if you want something larger than what Google managed to fit in.

Value: Google can be very generous with discounts, especially during the holiday shopping season. When considering a Pixel phone, more than with any other brand, I advise waiting for a discount because, as excellent as the phone is now, it feels like an even better value for a few hundred dollars or pounds less.

Check out our whole Google Pixel 8 Pro review.

IF, BUY IT
You’ve shot a lot of subpar photos and videos. The Pixel 8 Pro can correct any photos in your Google Photos collection, regardless of whether you previously took them with a different phone.

You are a devoted Android user for all time: This phone will endure longer than any other Android, good news, Android user. This is the first Android that will receive upgrades in 2030.

The call screening tool actually works (if you can locate it), and it provides you with a brief written transcript of what your caller wants before you decide to answer. You want a receptionist to answer your calls.

AVOID BUYING IT IF:
Your friends are all using iPhones: With iOS 17, Apple presents a convincing case for staying with the same phone that everyone else in your social circle is purchasing.

You want the greatest cameras possible: The Galaxy S23 Ultra has superior photography capabilities and quality, even though the Pixel 8 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are both impressive upgrades.

You are a journalist or reporter: The Google Pixel 8 Pro’s camera editing features may raise doubts about the veracity of the images it captures, and the summary tool is factually incorrect.

THE CONCLUSION
The Google Pixel 8 Pro reflects Google’s vision for the future of mobile technology and is the best Pixel the company has yet produced, even though at times that vision can be a little hazy and unfocused. It boasts an excellent display that outperforms rivals in this price range in terms of size and brightness, and its photographic features, which are supported by Google’s machine learning, are unsurpassed. ★★★★

Google Pixel 8 Pro evaluation sheet
Features Notes Rating
Price Although more expensive than last year, this year’s Android phones are still affordable, especially with longer software support.★★★★☆
Design The same old style has been improved with richer colours and a matte finish. Although it’s the finest Pixel yet, the design is becoming dated.★★★★☆
Display The Pixel 8 Pro’s main feature, this brilliant, sharp display is on par with—if not better than—that of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.★★★★★
Excellent camera features all around, along with some special AI editing options that resemble Photoshop creation more than photography. Still, the pictures are excellent.★★★★☆
Performance The performance is good enough for the time being, but it’s not obvious if this phone will live up to Google’s seven-year promise or if Android will make compromises in the future to fit within the Pixel 8 Pro.★★★☆☆
Excellent battery life is made possible by a very large internal cell and good power management, which keeps that dazzling display under control.★★★★☆

CONDITIONS TO AVOID

Though the Pixel 7a might be the more affordable option, Google has offered the Pixel 7 at such good savings over the past year that it is worth spending more even though you may not have to. Even though the Pixel 6a is still available for a wonderful cheap price, the Pixel 7 is a superior investment for better durability, wireless charging, and much better photography.

Design: The Pixel 7 shares similarities with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 8, however each year, new colour options are provided. We prefer the lemongrass shade that is available for this phone. The camera bar is metal, coloured according to the colour you choose, and has a great appearance for a low-cost gadget. Additionally, it is far more water resistant than the previous model, with an IP68 rating.

Display: The Pixel 7’s Full HD+ resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio allow it to run at up to 1000 nits under normal conditions and 1400 nits at its brightest (25% more than the Pixel 6’s display’s maximum brightness) for improved visibility in bright environments.

Camera: The Pixel 7 offers a 12MP ultra-wide and a 50MP main camera that are identical to those of the Pixel 7 Pro. The 10.8MP punch-hole selfie camera is also included, along with 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second and support for 10-bit HDR video capture for improved colour, brightness, and contrast. Even if the hardware is intriguing, the processing and software—which in this case are powered by that Tensor G2 chip—are truly what make the Pixel camera experience so great.

Performance: Compared to devices running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 CPU, such the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Pixel 7 lacks the sheer power. In practise, the difference probably won’t make much of a difference. Overall, the Pixel 7 can compete despite lacking the raw power of an iPhone or a more recent Galaxy, especially when it comes to AI tasks.

Battery life: The Google Pixel 7’s 4,355mAh battery may seem sizable, but we wish it were larger, especially given that it has a smaller capacity than the 4,614mAh battery inside its predecessor. With usage that included streaming, gaming, and prolonged TikTok sessions, we had no issue getting the phone to last all day and concluded most days at around 15%.

Value for money: Don’t pay the full suggested retail price for this phone. This phone is frequently discounted by Google and Amazon, and you can frequently purchase it for less than $449, £449, or AU$749. Over two months last year, Amazon sold this phone at that price. With a little perseverance, you can find the best deal for the best price.

Read our comprehensive Google Pixel 7 review.

IF, BUY IT
You want a low-cost phone that stands out: The camera bar may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but Google has succeeded in making something that is distinctly unique from everything else on the market, which is no small feat (without also being awful). Although the Lemongrass finish is controversial as well, the Pixel 7 is a good choice if you want a striking phone with useful features.

You’re an artistic mobile photographer: The Pixel 7 comes with some artistic photo capture modes and editing features that allow for some amazing results. It also simply takes great pictures, so if you use your phone’s camera for more than just taking pictures of a fancy dinner or your receipts (though it’s good for those too), it’s a great choice.

The Pixel 7 has the feature set and hardware to ease your life in many small ways, and it’s only going to get better over time. This is true regardless of whether you rely on accessibility or simply like the idea of being able to dictate to your phone and have it read content back to you.

AVOID BUYING IT IF:
You want a small phone: Despite Google’s efforts to reduce bezel size, the Pixel 7 still feels substantial in comparison to previous XL Pixel models. If you want to carry a rocket in your pocket, the Pixel 7a might be a better choice.

You shoot a lot of video: Google has made improvements to the Pixel line’s video quality, and Cinematic Blur is an ambitious addition, but if you want to succeed Roger Deakins (search for him), you’ll still need to put in a lot of effort. Overall, video quality has improved over the past year, although Samsung and Apple continue to lead in this area.

You need a lot of storage: One of the Pixel 7’s most fundamental problems is storage. While Google would undoubtedly want for you to sign up for a Google One cloud storage subscription, 256GB will only go you so far if you want to keep a lot of movies, apps, and games locally. The primary competitors of the phone provide up to 512GB and more.

THE CONCLUSION
The Pixel 7 offers a lot for the money, from its distinctive design to its imaginative and competent camera to its smart user experience. This Pixel is only going to get better over time because the user experience seems refined, the AI-supported features are distinctive and competent, and the promise of future “feature drops” that add more capabilities. ★★★★

PURPOSE OF BUYING

  • Long lasting battery
    +Strong internals
    CONDITIONS TO AVOID
    -No 120Hz display
    -Rear Ceramic Shield is absent

The battery life of the iPhone 13 is its best feature. Historically, iPhones haven’t been known for having long-lasting batteries, yet during every day of our testing, we struggled to drain the iPhone 13’s power. Battery life has finally been mastered by Apple, and it is now significantly better than it was on earlier iPhone models. The new A15 Bionic CPU in the iPhone 13 is extremely powerful, and when coupled with 4GB of RAM, it can handle many apps and tasks fast and effectively.

Design: The iPhone 13, which debuted with the iPhone 12 range, has a flat-edge design. As a result, the design is a little bit more angular than the previous models’ rounded finish, but the phone is still manageable to use with one hand. Regarding toughness, the iPhone 13 series is IP68 dust and water resistant, meaning it can withstand immersion in up to six metres of water for 30 minutes. This phone won’t be completely waterproof, but it will withstand the occasional splash.

Display: The iPhone 13’s display measures 6.1 inches and has a 2532 x 1170 resolution. Apple’s Super Retina XDR OLED display produces a sharp, bright image, and the iPhone 13’s brightness has been enhanced so that it can compete with competing smartphones in harsh sunlight.

A 12MP wide camera with an aperture of f/1.6 and a 12MP ultrawide camera with an aperture of f/2.4 and a 120-degree field of view are both located on the back of the device. This phone won’t be the ideal for taking pictures from a distance because it lacks a telephoto lens and instead relies on digital zoom.

Performance: Apple has improved significantly again, but benchmarking results show it most clearly. The overall user experience is mostly unchanged, although it will be a significant improvement over far older iPhone models. The 4GB of RAM that the A15 Bionic chipset is paired with is plenty to keep it operating at full speed.

Battery life: During the course of our testing, the iPhone 13 managed to get through each day with at least a few hours’ worth of battery left. Although many Android competitors may be able to last longer, this is still a significant improvement for Apple over prior iPhone models and will make the iPhone a more appealing option for many prospective purchasers.

Value: The iPhone 13 is the least expensive iPhone model available that does not have the old Home button. Despite this, the phone is still highly capable and powerful, and it features some of the finest power management ever seen in an iPhone. Although Apple treats every iPhone like the best iPhone by providing them with the same fantastic software update features, you may get Android phones that are less expensive.
IF, BUY IT
You have an even older iPhone: If you have an iPhone 12, the iPhone 13 probably isn’t for you because there isn’t enough new functionality to justify a purchase. However, if you have an iPhone 8 or iPhone XR, there is a lot to be thrilled about.

You need a long battery life: The iPhone 13’s battery life is significantly better than that of earlier iPhone models. Choose this iPhone over previous, less expensive models if you require a smartphone that can run all day on a single battery.

You want a lot of power: The iPhone 13 is one of the most capable phones we’ve ever used. It is a powerful smartphone. Without needing to upgrade to the iPhone 13 Pro, you can have enough of power right here.

AVOID BUYING IT IF:
You wish to keep it for longer than three years: Apple upgrades its phones every five years or so, so we anticipate this phone will receive updates up to iOS 20, but not beyond that.

You want the greatest iPhone cameras: The iPhone 13 has excellent cameras for a device of its price range, but you can get better photography and greater resolution from newer iPhones, and you can also get better images from less expensive Android devices.

You’re looking for the cheapest phone: The iPhone 13 is one of the cheaper options on this list, but overall, it’s not that inexpensive. There are many more inexpensive Android phones available; alternatively, if you choose to stick with Apple, you might consider the iPhone SE.

THE CONCLUSION
The iPhone 13 is an essential version that delivers improved battery life, a better processor, and an enhanced camera configuration than iPhones that have gone before it. It is hardly a revolutionary development for Apple’s line of smartphones. This is a great option if you want a quick and powerful smartphone but don’t require the added features of the more expensive Pro model. ★★★★½

The OnePlus 11 is a return to the company’s origins, offering premium performance and some amazing specifications while sacrificing some other features to offer a discount compared to the major rivals. Because OnePlus doesn’t muddle its lineup with Pro and Plus models, the OnePlus 11 is less expensive than the flagships from Samsung and Apple. Everything that OnePlus does well is present, and it performs admirably.

Design: If you get the green version of the OnePlus 11, the phone has a glossy finish and is compact. The back is dominated by the camera array, which will make it distinct from Galaxys and iPhones. Unfortunately, the phone’s water resistant rating isn’t IP68. The phone still has the well-known mute function for quickly turning off the noise.

Display: The OnePlus 11’s display is incredibly vibrant. The AMOLED panel has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and when playing games with intense particle effects, the smooth pace is apparent. For colour accuracy, it supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Although it could be brighter, it’s still wonderful.

Camera: The OnePlus 11’s Hasselblad-branded camera system isn’t for everyone. We were able to capture some incredible headshots, and the landscape pictures turned out beautifully, but each photo had its own appearance and feel. Wide-ranging photos like macro close-ups or distant zooms are not supported by the camera.

Performance: The OnePlus 11 was the first phone we tested with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 architecture. While Samsung’s Galaxy S23 is somewhat faster, it is only evident in benchmark results. The OnePlus 11 is quick and effective, performing admirably with both games and apps.

Battery life: The battery life is respectable in and of itself, but it excels at charging. You can fully charge the battery in less than 30 minutes with the provided (!) charger. Outside of the US, where higher voltage is the norm, it happens even faster. However, wireless charging is not available.

Value: The OnePlus 11 offers outstanding performance at a reasonable price, just like the best OnePlus phones in the past. Although it isn’t the most affordable flagship on this list, you get a big screen, unusual cameras, and other outstanding features that aren’t available anywhere else for the price.

IF, BUY IT
You want a distinctive Android: While the most of the phones on this list are competing and trying to catch up to one another, OnePlus takes a different approach with special features like super-fast charging.

If you want to save money on a top-tier flagship, OnePlus offers a fantastic screen and excellent performance for less than many rivals, plus it frequently has exceptional sales.

You appreciate the distinctive design: If you want a phone that stands out, the OnePlus 11 resembles the large Chinese flagships that your friends haven’t yet seen.

AVOID BUYING IT IF:
If you ever drop your phone in water, the OnePlus 11 is just moderately water resistant. You won’t want to put it in the sink or take it into the pool for pictures.

You need a camera that is adaptable; the OnePlus 11 essentially has a selection of portrait lenses. Both telephoto zoom and close-ups are difficult for it to handle.

You need a carrier deal since, while OnePlus offers amazing deals online, your local US carrier won’t carry this phone, making it impossible to get a deal that includes a contract.

THE CONCLUSION
The OnePlus 11 has a brilliant display that truly explodes with colour and is incredibly quick. Compared to Samsung’s One UI, the interface is lighter while still incorporating helpful functions. If you enjoy taking photos for social media, the OnePlus 11 offers a distinctive camera experience that, while occasionally surprising and constrained, often yields stunning images. ★★★★

CONDITIONS TO AVOID

The Motorola Razr Plus (also known as the Razr 40 Ultra outside of the US) is more than just the greatest foldable phone available (as far as flip phones are concerned); it represents a completely new class of smartphone, with more features than any device before it. It functions as a small, portable communicator, a pocket mirror, and a palm-sized map when the phone is closed. This phone is the one that finally makes folding a display in half acceptable, leaving you to wonder when the other top phone manufacturers will catch up.

Design: The phone’s two sides slap together when it is folded like pursed lips, with a slight edge curvature that nevertheless manages to form a sealed crease. This impression might be enhanced by the colour Viva Magenta. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 appears to be square and boxy. Unlike every other flip phone competitor that came before it, the Razr Plus has no discernible gap when closed.

Display: The cover screen is finally taken seriously on a flip phone with this one. This screen serves more purposes than merely displaying lovely animations and the weather or basic notifications. The true deal is this. On this display, entire apps can be run. However, even without the excellent external display, the Motorola Razr Plus would still be unique due to its large, foldable interior screen.

Camera: This phone in general bears all the telltale signs of a poor camera. The camera blew out red tones in flower photographs until most of the details were lost. When taking pictures in the woods, the background stems and leaves were either artificially blurred or digitally oversharpened, with deep black lines separating the items.

Performance: The Motorola Razr Plus won’t be the best phone to get if benchmark results are your only concern. Thankfully, actual performance deviates from what I anticipated based on the specs, and despite using the same platform as last year’s Razr (or perhaps precisely because it does), this phone runs better than you’d anticipate and better than you’d hope.

Battery life: Motorola did its utmost to cram a sizable battery into the Razr Plus’s light, foldable body. Even while Apple controls power slightly better than Samsung, it has managed to cram a bigger battery inside the foldable frame than you’ll find in the iPhone 14 Pro. With the Motorola Razr Plus, we weren’t quite able to go through an entire day on a single charge, though that’s partly because the phone was just so enjoyable to use.

Value for money: The Razr Plus is pricey, but it’s the first folding clamshell phone that we’d suggest to everyone, not just those looking for flip phones or those seeking the newest and coolest gadgets.

IF, BUY IT
If you’ve been saying to yourself, “I’ll buy a new phone when there’s a reason to buy something new,” you finally have that reason. You’ve been waiting for phones to become hip again.

You need a huge screen but want a compact phone. The Motorola Razr Plus boasts the largest display when it is opened and is the thinnest flip phone when closed. You don’t have to be a Time Lord to understand the magic because it’s bigger within than the others.

You aren’t dependent on your iPhone: Sincerely, what’s holding you back from purchasing a hip phone? Are you really dependent on the Dynamic Island and blue bubbles? I’m confident you’ll enjoy it if you try something cooler.

AVOID BUYING IT IF:
The Motorola Razr Plus has excusable problems, but the cameras aren’t one of them. You need a phone with a superior camera. They’re not great for typical shots, but the main lens works best for selfies.

You’re going to get it wet: The Moto Razr Plus is less water resistant than the Galaxy Z line of smartphones, which can withstand a dip, but it is more dust resistant than other flip phones.

You want to completely disconnect and hang up: The Razr Plus doesn’t go to sleep when you hang up, in contrast to other flip phones. Wait for the base model Razr if you want the pleasure of tuning out, even if it’s frequently even more enjoyable when it’s closed.

THE CONCLUSION
The Motorola Razr Plus / Razr 40 Ultra represents a significant advancement in smartphone technology, outperforming all prior flip and foldable models. It is remarkably thin and has a sizable display when the screen is open. When it is shut and you begin using apps on the external screen, you have a completely new gadget that is unlike anything you have ever used. Although it has some shortcomings, it is so much above what other phones have to offer that they are almost all excuseable. If you want to rediscover your enthusiasm for smartphones, check out the Motorola Razr Plus. ★★★★½

Card for the Motorola Razr Plus
Features Notes Rating
Price The same as last year’s model, plus an additional half-screen
Design The most streamlined and form-fitting flip phone ever with a revolutionary exterior screen
Display The external display is considerably more than just an afterthought, and it is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.
Although it doesn’t have the best cameras, its excellent design makes it simple to capture original images that other phones can’t match.
Performance Sufficient to handle all tasks, although when stressed with video recording or gaming, it may become warm.
Battery life The battery life could be better, and utilising that external display (or both at the same time!) consumes more power.

FAQS
Which phone will be the best in 2023?
Objectively speaking, the iPhone 15 Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will be the best phone in 2023, but each handset shines in a different way. The former is the most powerful phone in the world, and the latter has the best mobile cameras available today. However, if you don’t want to pay their exorbitant asking costs, the iPhone 15 Pro is currently our top choice as the greatest phone for most people.

How to select the ideal smartphone for you
When purchasing a new smartphone, the first decision you must make is your budget. The price range of smartphones ranges widely, from extremely high-end models that cost well over four figures to significantly less expensive models that can be obtained for only a few hundred dollars. On our list, we offer choices at both ends of the price range.

Decide whether you want to test one of the finest Android phones or go with one of the best iPhones after determining how much you want to spend. The choice of platform is frequently influenced more by your job, your friends’ and family’s methods of sharing photographs and messages, and the type of computer or gadgets you already have.

You should choose the cameras now that your price and platform have been decided. Do you need a serious camera if you’re a serious photographer? Do you prefer to shoot simple pictures that are enjoyable to edit and share? Simpler phones with a 12MP maximum megapixel limit tend to do the work for you whereas phones with additional lenses and larger megapixel counts demand more but offer variety.

We also have a tonne of unusual selections if you’re searching for something out of the ordinary. There are phones that can fold in half to be more small, as well as phones with a built-in pen for writing. There are different sizes of phones, including large, small, and Max. Both space-level zoom and touch-sensitive portrait phones are available.

You can be confident that every phone on this list has been thoroughly tested and vetted, and we are confident that you will be happy carrying any of these gadgets in your pocket.

WHY WE TEST
Only phones that have undergone in-depth testing, as part of a detailed testing routine, have been included on this list. We examine every function of a phone that you might use on a daily basis before delving further to unearth all of its secrets.

We evaluate a phone’s speed, performance, battery life, and camera quality in particular. We ensure that phones fulfil the promises made by their manufacturers. We get the stopwatch out if it says a phone can charge in 30 minutes.

We have seen every phone available, so we know how each model compares to the others. No matter what you pay, we use both Android and iPhone devices, from the most expensive to the most affordable models, so we know what you’re getting. We ensure that the phones provide what we would anticipate for the price.

We keep going after we’re finished. As we learn more and as the phones are updated, we continue to update our reviews. Before making a purchase, check back to make sure you are reading the most recent reviews of the top smartphones available.
